Michelle de Kretser's
The Lost Dog has won the Christina Stead Prize for Fiction and the Book of the Year Award in the 2008 NSW Premier's Literary Awards. I'm hoping this will be just the first of many. Previous raves about this book are

Deserts? I think that says more about the Aust lit scene than you mean...
ReplyDeleteHee hee, I was wondering when/if somebody would mention this, but it really is "deserts", one S but with with emphasis on the second syllable (as distinct from the sandy ones), derived from 'deserve', meaning 'that which she justly deserves' and nothing to do with sticky toffee pudding. I promise.
ReplyDeleteActually, almost a shame to kill that one in my head, because desserts are such a spiffing reward for good work.
ReplyDeleteWow, I never knew that!
ReplyDeleteIt seems we colonials are culpable here. I like the little pictures of deserts and desserts with red lines through them.
